Florence

Florence's tax applies to people who do not live in the city, for at most 7 nights in a row. The place you stay collects it from you and gives you a receipt. Children are exempt until their twelfth birthday, and some groups pay half; the city's page lists them.1

Barcelona

Catalonia taxes stays in tourist accommodation. Under the law published in Spain's official gazette in 2026, the rates for Barcelona city from April 2026 are:3

Where you stayRate
Hotel, 5 stars or grand luxury, or luxury campsite€7.003
Hotel, 4 stars or 4 stars superior€3.403

Barcelona's city council may add its own surcharge, which the law caps at €8 for each category.3 Check the latest: Ley 2/2026 (Catalonia) We could not read the city's own rules, so the surcharge is not included above, and we have not checked how the rates are counted (for example per person and night), which an earlier law sets. Read the law and ask your accommodation.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam's tourist tax is 12.5% of the price charged for the overnight stay, not counting the tax itself.4 The provider owes it and may pass it on to the guest. The ordinance has applied since January 2024 and was still shown as in force when we read it.4

Read the ordinance. Cruise passengers visiting for the day fall under a separate rule, not covered here.

What about Paris, Rome, Venice and other cities?

We could not use the official pages of Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Brussels, Rome, Milan, Venice, Lisbon, Porto, Prague, Dubrovnik or Athens: their terms do not allow reuse, say nothing about it, or the sites blocked automated reading. Your accommodation can tell you what applies.

What this page cannot tell you

  • Rates change. Cities and regions revise these taxes often; the figures are those in force when we read the rules.
  • Barcelona's surcharge is missing. The city's own surcharge could not be checked, so the total in Barcelona may be higher than the table.
  • Exemptions. Only the exemptions named above are covered; each city lists others.

Key takeaways

  • Florence: up to 7 nights, children under twelve exempt, rates by type and stars.
  • Barcelona: the Catalan rate, plus a city surcharge we could not check.
  • Amsterdam: a percentage of the price of the stay, not a fixed amount.
  • What we would skip: budgeting with a single per-night figure for a city; the tax depends on where you stay and, in Amsterdam, on the price.
