In 2026 the Yoshida and Subashiri trails opened on 1 July and the Gotemba and Fujinomiya trails on 10 July, and all four charged 4,000 yen per person. Climbers entering at night faced limits on every trail. The ministry says the rules may change, and its pages gave no dates for 2027 when we read them.132 Check the latest: Ministry of the Environment, 富士山登山者数の推移

When was the 2026 climbing season?
The Ministry of the Environment lists the 2026 opening days as 1 July for the Yoshida and Subashiri trails and 10 July for the Gotemba and Fujinomiya trails.12
Its counters near the 8th station on all four trails recorded about 240,000 climbers from the opening days to 10 September 2026.2 On the Yoshida trail, the 7th-station first-aid post was open for the whole climbing period, 1 July to 10 September.3
How much does it cost to climb?
In 2026 all four trails charged 4,000 yen per person.3 Check the latest: 富士山における適正利用推進協議会 (Council for the Proper Use of Mount Fuji), 富士登山オーバーツーリズム対策パッケージに基づく令和8(2026)年シーズンの取組 On the Yoshida trail it is a toll (通行料), paid through the trail's booking system or on the spot; on the three Shizuoka trails it is an entry fee (入山料).3 Check the current fee on the official climbing site before you go.
What are the rules on the Yoshida trail?
- A gate at the 5th station, with staff, and no entry from 2 pm to 3 am.3
- A limit of 4,000 climbers a day, not counting people staying in mountain huts.3
- Booking or paying on the spot. When climbers book or pay, they confirm they have the equipment needed and pledge to follow the rules.3
What are the rules on the Subashiri, Gotemba and Fujinomiya trails?
The three trails on the Shizuoka side follow the prefecture's ordinance. In 2026 climbers had to:3
- complete advance learning on the rules and manners for protecting the mountain and climbing safely;3
- stay in a mountain hut if they start climbing between 2 pm and 3 am;3
- pay the 4,000 yen entry fee.3 Check the latest: 富士山における適正利用推進協議会 (Council for the Proper Use of Mount Fuji), 富士登山オーバーツーリズム対策パッケージに基づく令和8(2026)年シーズンの取組
Registration is through the prefecture's web system, 静岡県FUJI NAVI, checked by QR code at the 5th station; climbers who have not registered online fill in a paper form and do the learning on the spot.3
What does the ministry say about safety?
It warns against “bullet climbing” (弾丸登山), which it defines as leaving the 5th station in the evening or later and climbing through the night to the summit without staying in a hut.2
Because Mount Fuji is an active volcano, the ministry recommends carrying a helmet and similar equipment in case of a sudden eruption or falling rocks.2
What about 2027?
The rules began in both prefectures in 2025: registration in advance, an entry fee and hours when entry is restricted.2 The ministry says the rules and the booking methods may change, and asks climbers to check the official Mount Fuji climbing site before they go.2 Its pages gave no dates for 2027 when we read them.2

What this page cannot tell you
- Two prefectures' own pages are not used. Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures publish the details, but their terms do not allow their pages to be reused, so we use the national ministry's pages only and link the official site.
- Closing dates. The ministry gives 10 September as the end of the Yoshida trail's climbing period and of the count on all four trails; we found no separate closing date for the Shizuoka trails in a source we can use.
- A past season. These are the 2026 rules. Check the official site for the next season.

Key takeaways
- In 2026 the Yoshida and Subashiri trails opened on 1 July, and the Gotemba and Fujinomiya trails on 10 July.
- Every trail charged a fee per person (see the fee section for the 2026 amount), and every trail limited climbing at night.
- The Yoshida trail had a daily limit of 4,000 climbers, not counting hut guests.
- What we would skip: planning a night climb from the 5th station without a hut booking; the ministry warns against it and the trails restrict it.
