What is the 2010 official list?

The Elenco ufficiale aree protette (EUAP) is the official list of protected areas; the version in the ministry's data is the sixth update, approved by D.M. 27/04/2010. It has 24 national parks, all of which are on the current ministry list.2 Pantelleria, Matese and Portofino are on the ministry's list but not in the 2010 version.12

What this page cannot tell you

  • No regions or dates here. Neither source has a region or founding year; the official list names several legal acts per park, and choosing one would be our interpretation.
  • Provisional boundaries. Two parks' boundaries may change.

Key takeaways

  • The ministry lists 27 national parks.
  • Two, Matese and Portofino, have provisional boundaries.
  • The 2010 official list has 24 national parks.
  • What we would skip: reading the list as a ranking or a travel guide. It records an official designation; it says nothing about opening, access or conditions, so check each park's own information before you go.
