Pick a topic and see every place ranked: 35 European countries, 47 Japanese prefectures or 123 European regions. In 2025 guests stayed longest in Cyprus (4.7 nights on average), and accommodation prices rose most in Croatia (+12.7%). Up to four places can also sit side by side.
Choose a set of places and a topic, and every place is ranked on it: from how seasonal it is and who stays, to hotel occupancy, the weather and daylight in any month. Every figure is the one printed on the place's own page, which each name links to. The pickers need JavaScript; the tables under the chart list every yearly figure without it.
Rank every place on one topic
A longer bar means a higher figure. Where a figure can fall below zero, as with price changes, the bar runs left of the zero line. Use Highlight to find one place in the list, and Regions in to rank the regions of a single country.123

Before you compare
- Europe and Japan count differently. Europe counts nights at hotels, holiday and short-stay accommodation and campsites; Japan counts guest nights at licensed hotels, ryokan and other lodgings. Compare places within the same set.12
- Occupancy is measured differently too. In Europe it is Eurostat's net occupancy rate of bedrooms in hotels and similar places only, not campsites or holiday lets. In Japan it is the agency's room occupancy rate across every licensed lodging type.62
- Price change is not price. The figure shows how much accommodation prices changed between 2024 and 2025, not what a stay costs.5
- Weather is one station per place, named on each page, as 1991–2020 averages. Rainy days follow each weather source's own definition, so small differences between countries mean little.78
- Regions come from a separate Eurostat dataset, updated on 2 July 2026, so a region's figures can differ slightly from its country's.3
- Daylight is our calculation of sunrise to sunset on the 15th of each month of 2026 at each place's weather station.9

Key takeaways
- Longest average stay in 2025: Cyprus, 4.7 nights. Shortest: Iceland, 1.5 nights.
- Accommodation prices rose most in Croatia (+12.7%); they fell in Portugal and Finland.
- Sharpest peak among 123 regions: Sud-Est (Romania), with 64.5% of its 2025 nights in two months.
- Guests from abroad: from 17.9% of nights in Romania to 96.3% in Liechtenstein; in Japan, from 2.8% in Fukui to 55.7% in Tokyo.
- What we would skip: ranking a European country against a Japanese prefecture on the same chart. The surveys count different things.
