When is Canada busiest with international visitors, and when is it quietest?
July had the most overnight visitor arrivals in 2025, with 14.8% of the year's total. January had the fewest, with 4.6%. That makes July 3.2 times as busy as January.1
Seven months each had less than an average month's share of 8.3%: January, February, March, April, October, November and December.
Who are the visitors?
Residents of the USA made 67.9% of these overnight arrivals in 2025, and residents of all other countries the remaining 32.1%.1
For US residents the busiest month was July and the quietest January. For residents of other countries the busiest was July and the quietest January.1
Where do Canada's international visitors come from?
The largest group came from the United States, with 76.9% of all non-resident visitors entering Canada in 2025, including same-day trips, followed by the United Kingdom (3.0%) and France (2.2%).3

What exactly is counted?
Statistics Canada counts non-resident visitors entering Canada, split into same-day and overnight trips. We use the overnight figure: visitors who live outside Canada and stayed at least one night.1
Other countries count arrivals differently, which is why we do not rank Canada against the others on the overview page.
June or September? May or October?
September was quieter than June, at 9.4% against 12.1%.
October was quieter than May, at 8.1% against 8.4%.
These compare months at similar distances from the middle of the year. They say nothing about weather, which we have not measured.
What these figures cannot tell you
Arrivals are not crowds. A month with many arrivals can still feel quiet if visitors stay briefly or spread out, and a national total cannot show how busy one city, park or beach is.
They say nothing about length of stay, weather or prices. This page has no weather or price data.
Recent months can change. Statistics Canada may revise its monthly counts after first publication.1
